Kiran Bains Sahota was born around the thick orchards of Northern California. Inspired by her town of diverse voices and rich natural surroundings, Bains uses storytelling to speak on the cultural realities facing South Asian communities and often explores the qualities of the human condition that sustain life.

Bains earned her BA in English from UC Berkeley in 2019 and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Saint Mary’s College of California in 2021. During a summer abroad, she also studied fantasy-fiction writing at Oxford University, studying Tolkien and Lewis Carroll, among other prominent English authors.

Bains is currently acquiring an agent for her first novel while embarking on a journey for her PhD in Literature at the University of Texas.

Her work has been in issues of the Cosumnes River College Journal, College Magazine, The Appeal Democrat, Dear Quarantine Diary, Forum Magazine, Maiden Magazine, as well as her own site, SunsetDahlia.com.

She has a publication in an anthology through Risk Press (2022) forthcoming.
